about

Notes by John Horler:

This Trio has worked together for some years now and we all felt that the time had come to make a recording.

Long Ago and Far Away - Another Jerome Kern classic. Jazz musicians love playing his songs but it wasn’t reciprocated; look up "All the things you are" by Maynard Ferguson with the Charlie Barnet Orchestra!

My Bells - A beautiful and challenging piece by Bill Evans.

Open Space - Written for this trio; we hope the music reflects the title.

After Supper - First played this with the late great tenor player Danny Moss: from "The Atomic Mr Basie", composed and arranged by Neal Hefti.

Before The Dawn - One of my first compositions, now played as a"8" feel.

A Step Too Far - Written whilst recovering from a broken arm sustained by tripping over a step!

Circle - From the incredible ‘Miles Smiles’ album.

Eiderdown - Our arrangement of one of Steve Swallow's many superb compositions.

Jade Visions - Scott LaFaro’s OTHER great piece, a hauntingly beautiful vignette in 9/8 time.

Those Days - First played by the Allan Ganley big band, arranged by Allan.

Together - My original title for this ballad.
